September School Meeting

In September, the Principal will address the parents concerning the programs, policies, goals, etc. of the new school year. Following this address, the teachers will speak to the parents of the class in the classroom concerning the programs, needs, and expectations for that particular grade level.

Parent Teacher Conferences

Parent-Teacher conferences are held in December and in March to present first and second Trimester reports. These meetings are a means of assisting the parents to help their child work to her/his potential.  Other meetings will be held as necessary.

In addition, Interim Progress Reports, delivered mid-trimester for the first and second trimesters, also serve as a means of communicating your child’s progress.  This helps parents see whether their child is improving from one marking period to another. Teachers use the Interim Progress report as one way of notifying the parent if an academic or behavior problem exists. If the learning problems continue, special testing, summer school, or retention in the grade may be required. Such decisions are made by the principal. In some serious situations, it may be necessary to transfer the child to another school.

How to Request a Special Meeting

Parents can request a meeting by sending a note to the teacher in question.

Appointments with the Principal can be made either by phone or by note.

If it is necessary to cancel an appointment, please communicate this information to the Office.

Parental Sypervision

It is important that the child learn a sense of responsibility for their school work. A balance must be established between dependence and independence in this regard.

Parents are expected to assist in educating their child through the observation of the child’s work and attitudes.  As part of this, parents must check and sign Student Planners each day.  Parents should also review their child’s homework and any class work, tests, notebooks and reports that are sent home.  Demerits should also be observed to determine if a pattern is developing.

It is the child’s responsibility to meet all requirements with regard to homework, study work and written assignments, as well as being prepared for all classes. It is also the child’s responsibility to be prepared for school with all the necessary materials. Unless there are exceptional circumstances, books, assignments, gym clothes, projects and so on must be bought to school by the child not the parent.

Students may not call home for missing items such as assignments, books and materials. It is their obligation to bring them to school. Likewise, a student may not pick up items from the classroom after school has been dismissed.  No-one is permitted to enter the school building after dismissal without permission of the Office staff.

Service

Parents are asked to take an active part in the school by serving as lunch supervisors, door supervisors, tutors and so on.
