Absence

On the day of the absence, the parent is asked to call the school (718-238-5045) before 9:00 am to report the absence. If the student is absent in the afternoon only, a call should be made before 1:00 PM. This should happen every day of the absence for the safety of the child. If this call is not received, it will be necessary for the Office to call the parent to confirm the absence. Children who are reported absent from school may not enter the school building during school hours.

On the day the child returns to School, an absence note from the parent must be submitted explaining the reason for the absence. It is understood that the note will include:

• Date of the note
• Date(s) of the absence
• Note should be addressed to the teacher
• Exact reason for the absence

• Parent’s signature

Lateness

Students are to report to the Office for a late pass if they arrive after the bell at 8:20 or 12:10. Parents may not bring the child to the class. For Grades 4-8, three latenesses incur one demerit.

Leaving Early

If it is necessary for a child to be dismissed early, a note should be submitted to that effect on the morning that this will take place. It is also necessary for a parent or a delegate of the parent to pick up the child when leaving early.

In the event that a parent must take a student out of school for a day or a longer period of time, please submit a note explaining this fact prior to the day itself. Such a situation is strongly discouraged, except in case of an emergency, since the child’s education must be a priority. However, if it is necessary, school assignments must be requested in advance from the teacher(s). It is the student’s responsibility to complete all work.

When a student is absent, the parent should request books and homework assignments through the Office. This request should be made at the same time the absence is reported. Such books and assignments may be picked up at the Office at dismissal time, not before. All assignments and tests must be made up after the student returns to school. The completion of all work is the responsibility of the student.
