We can’t believe January is almost over! Our class has been very busy since we returned from our Christmas vacation. The brand new year has been lots of fun. Two of our classmates turned 5!
We’ve completed alphabet activities for letters J, W and I. We made orange juice to celebrate the letter J. We brainstormed things to do in winter and made magic wands for “W” and we had an ice cream party to celebrate the letter I. In March we are going to follow the Iditarod online, the famous husky dogsled race from Anchorage to Nome, Alaska.
We are very excited to be using inchworms to learn how to measure inches in our classroom Math Center. We increased our math knowledge when we made juice for the letter J by counting oranges and learning about fractions and halves.
We celebrated MLK’s birthday and watched “Our Friend Martin” a great video which details his storied life.
Currently we are working on our “All About Me” theme and painting our life-sized portraits which will be displayed outside our classroom in time for Catholic Schools Week (Jan 31-Feb 5). We hope you will visit our School Open House on Sunday, January 31st from 12-2pm or during class on Tuesday, February 2nd from 9-11am or 1-2:30pm.
Next Monday February 1st we will celebrate School Spirit! This year, through random lottery, our class colour is brown! Children are encouraged to wear brown if possible. We have created our very own PreK1 cheer!
February 3rd is a big day for two reasons!
First, it is Student/Teacher Appreciation Day and most importantly, its Elmo’s Birthday!!! We will have an “Elmo Says Make Me Laugh” contest in class! We’ll also go visit Elmo in person at Madison Square Garden to see his new show “Elmo Grows Up” on Feb 10.
On Friday, February 5th we will compete in the school-wide Olympics. Please arrive at 6:30pm.
The 100th day of school is fast approaching on February 11th! A celebration is in order!
February 12 will be an extra-special day as we celebrate the Lunar New Year: Year of the Tiger and of course Valentine’s Day. We will be making special Valentine mailboxes so the students can exchange Valentines.
Winter break begins at dismissal on February 12th. We return to school on Feb 22nd.
Ciao for now from PreK1!
Wow, I just can’t believe it’s December already! Time is flying by and the children have grown so much since the first day of school.
I was so happy to see some class parents at Christmas Village this morning!
First, here are some dates to remember for December 2009:
- This Monday, December 7, we’ll have our first Parent/Teacher Conferences of 2009. I’ll be seeing some of you in the afternoon and others in the evening.
- This Tuesday, December 8, we are off for the Feast of the Immaculate Conception.
- We are looking forward to performing in the Christmas Concert Tuesday, December 15th. I hope you will all join us there. It’s a great way to start off the Christmas season!
- On December 22nd, we will have our Christmas Celebration / Happy Birthday Jesus Party in class.
- December 23rd will be our last day before Christmas Vacation and it will be a half day with dismissal at 11:30am.
This month in PreK-1, we are busy with Christmas projects, rehearsing for the big Christmas Show and learning the letters D, A and S. We are reading lots of Christmas stories and learning about the birth of Jesus and the true meaning of Christmas. We will also celebrate Saint Nicholas Day and the Feast of Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe (Our Lady of Guadalupe).
Merry Christmas from all of PreK-1!
